Saigon Invest Group (SGI) –  a puplic groups, is a typical example of native private enterprises that could prosper thanks to  Vietnam’s policy of developing a multi-sectoral economy in the process of Doi Moi (Renovation). It  is one of the leading and most successful multifaceted puplic groups in the country.

Saigon Invest Group - according to the enterprise law - is a group of corporations and units with independent legality, operating independently in compliance with the law without creating new legalities; the affiliates agree to make Saigon Invest Corporation the center of operational synergy and in charge of endorsing all the documents of Saigon Invest Group. These independent legalities join the Group voluntarily, in compliance with the law and with no strings attached so as to create collective power, to maximize the respective advantages of each member, to minimize costs, limitations and the disadvantages of small businesses, to best benefit the members, and especially to promote the combined strength of Vietnamese enterprises during the national development process in the WTO integration environment.

SGI is well-known for its successful efforts in bringing into full play its endogenous strength and in exploiting effectively the common opportunities and  advantages of the country and the region for the purpose of  development. Its dynamic include real estate; finances; telecommunications; energy, mining, manufacturing in Viet Nam with  total assets amounting to  $ US 2 billion. SGI has continuously carried out major projects in cooperation with strategic partners, big and well-known corporations from the USA, Japan, Taiwan in the fields of energy and power, IT, telecommunications, finances.

Strong and sustainable economic potentials

In addition to successful activities in developing industrial parks and urban centres, SGI is also credited with financial potentials and experiences in the currency business and is now active in  the Vietnam securities  market. 

In the forthcoming period, it is SGI policy  to mobilize as much as possible  domestic and foreign resources  in order to invest in development. Thanks to important investments in the fields of finances and currency, SGI has been performing  a major  role in the national development process and is now regarded as a Corporation with  strong economic potentials in Viet Nam.

Major progress in communications and high technology

New progress has been achieved by SGI in high technology and communications. Following its establishment, SGI has tried  to exploit Vietnam’s  advantages in the field of information  software technology by developing cooperation with foreign partners in products involving  information-related  high technology and technology with high intellectual contents as reflected in the development projects of Canon (which produces l0% of  world market shares in laser equipments), of Sanyo (which produce sensor of optical components in electronic products), of Foxconn – Honhai (which produces high technology electronics products with registered capital amounting to over 5 billion USD).

Human resource development

Convinced that human beings are an important corporate asset and a decisive factor for the success of its projects, SGI always gives top priority to its human resources development strategy which  focusses on 2 points: 1) Training and developing a contingent of employees, of over 3000, who are both qualified and devoted and are able to implement all SGI projects; 2) To train human resources to be supplied to joint ventures of which SGI is a partner and to the society at large.

At present, SGI has established a Training Institute  the task of which is to improve the skills of SGI IT engineers, train highly qualified IT engineers to be supplied to various organizations in Vietnam and abroad. The Hung Vuong College, which is affiliated to SGI and  has been in operation for over l3 years, has had to its credit important achievements in the training of human resources,with each year thousands of gaduates who could find good employment in government agencies, private companies and enterprises in the country and abroad. 

As is known, it is the policy of the Vietnamese Government to develop a contingent of intellectuals that would serve national industrialization and national modernization, that would be, by the year 2020, quite big in terms of number, quite high in terms of quality and would have a rational structure, that would come close to the level of intellectuals in developed countries in the region and the world. In this context, one can see that SGI human resources strategy is quite in line with the march of the national economy, and this interaction would create  major opporunities for SGI to implement successfully its large-scale investment strategy.          

An enterprise which works  hand in hand with the community

With the motto  “to develop along with  the community”, over the past 10  years, while contributing to the State Budget millions of US dollars in tax, SGI has spent  hundreds of  billions  VND in charity and social activities. The Chairman of SGI has said: “We will always   try to come up to the level of famous international  corporations with a long history of hundreds of years who invariably  take the lead in abiding by the principles of promoting the  prosperity of mankind as a whole, protecting the environment and the future of young generations”.

As this orientation of SGI is in keeping with the general development goals of Viet Nam, one can affirm that SGI is a corporation the strength of which is  not only underpinned by its endogenous resources but also  the resources of the Vietnamese nation, that is, the will and determination to basically turn Vietnam into a modern  industrial country by the year 2020.
